Town East hosts shopping frenzy

Teens love to shop and hang out with their friends.
That’s part of the reason why Town East Mall has arranged a special event just for young adults to gather and embrace the place where they do their shopping and socializing all at once. Shop ‘til You Rock, a musically driven mall tour, is coming to Mesquite to give teens a chance to live like a rock star for a day.
On July 24, the event will feature a number of music performances, attractions and exclusive mall giveaways. Headlining the occasion with his original live music is Dallas performer Dustin Cavazos, who is being sponsored by Hot Topic. Not only will local fans have an opportunity to watch Cavazos perform, they will be able to meet him after the show.
“Through Shop ‘til You Rock, we hope to make back-to-school shopping even more fun for our shoppers,” she said, “which in turn will help increase sales for our retailers.
“It’s a win-win for everyone.”
All afternoon, adolescents can explore activity stations set up around the mall. At the Just Dance booth, they can have dance-offs with friends and compete for the top rock star dancer title as they groove to Top 40 hits. Young shoppers will have a shot at completing their rock star looks with crazy hairstyles and colors at the Rock On Salon. And local fashionistas and in-style guys can channel their good taste at Rock the Runway. Here, students can take the runway by storm, while Fusion Model Management searches for guys and gals ages 13-19 to make use of almost $400,000 in modeling contracts.
LaClave believes one of the most exciting features of the event is Center Stage, a booth where retailers will display fashion tips and trends for the upcoming fall season.
“The event will be exciting because there’s something going on for everyone,” she said. “That said, the freeze modeling will be particularly fun because it allows shoppers to see some of the latest fashions and looks.”
Disney Channel star, blossoming singer and Dallas native Demi Lovato also has a hand in Shop ‘til You Rock. Town East is offering several sweepstakes opportunities and backstage concert passes in collaboration with Lovato. In August, she will grace the stage at Stonebriar Centre Mall in Frisco as part of the Shop ‘til You Rock series.
Mall staff members have high hopes this event will show the capabilities the shopping center possesses as an establishment.
“It will give teens and [their parents] an added reason to come to Mesquite to do their fall shopping,” LaClave said.
